Rayno History

Rayno History

We're sure you can tell just from the pictures of the shop on this website, that history is very important to us.  It's part of the reason we strive to provide our customers the personal classic service that was once common in every business.

Rayno Automotive Inc. is named in honor of my wife's maiden name. On this page you can see a picture of a used car warranty that her grandfather saved from a 1946 Buick he purchased in 1953 for $595.

My wife not only comes from a family with a linage of auto enthusiasts, but one with an unofficial family motto that matches my own, "If you're going to do a job, do it right."  That is a motto we run this shop by and is why our business slogan is "Dependable Service For Your Car".

The garage itself used to be owned by Manuel (Manny) Cruz and was known as Cruz Automotive Service.  Manuel was featured in the June 23, 1991 Personal Magazine for his "All-American Work Ethic".  He immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic with his family when he was 12 and worked to pay for his SUNY Albany tuition with a job maintaining the University's busses.

But Manny left school to pursue his entrepreneurial passions and started his own garage by paying the first three months rent with his own sweat equity to fix up a broken down building on Central Avenue.

Quite coincidentally, Manny was ready to retire shortly after the owner of Larry’s Foreign Auto Service had retired and closed that shop which opened in 1973.

Larry's was a small mechanic shop, hidden away on Corning Street in Albany, that had a very dedicated and loyal customer base because they knew their best interests would always be put first whenever they needed work on their vehicle.  The reputation for trust in the service received by Larry's customers is second to none.

As the former owner of Colby Body & Fender Works, I had worked with both of these shops myself and referred customers to them when we couldn't do the work at Colby.

So when Larry's Foreign Auto Service closed, I hired Larry’s head mechanic “KT” to expand and lead the auto mechanic side of the Colby Auto Body business.

When Cruz Automotive Service also closed, that provided the opportunity to create the fully separate and independent Rayno Automotive Inc. mechanic shop and continue to provide the same high-quality, trusted service these past businesses were built upon. The kind of service that their customers came to expect and that you deserve.

Thank you for the opportunity to be your auto mechanic shop.
